August 29, 2008 - Psalm 126-128 - 1 Corinthians 10:14-35

August 30, 2008 - Psalm 129-131 - 1 Corinthians 1:1-16

August 31, 2008 - Psalm 132-134 - 1 Corinthians 1:17-34

“Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:11).”

A Thought to Ponder:

In verses 2 thru 10 Paul expounds on the relationship between Christ, God, man, and woman. Paul writes within these texts about the principles of public prayer. For Paul, it is all about the proper order that God created. He concludes in vs. 11 that the man and the woman together are a whole and together they are in the Lord, because the woman was made from man and man is born of woman. Paul here also notes that they both come from God and are made in His image.

One important aspect of these verses is to focus on that Paul is emphasizing a need for order and custom in prayer and preaching as well. Why would we not expect to follow order and direction in something as important as worship and prayer which is our communication with God and the expression of God’s word to His people? God’s ways always bring order to chaos.

In our American society, the number one characteristic parents say they want to establish in their children, as they raise them, is independence. Though this is an admirable trait, it needs to be tempered with the understanding of our need for God and His order in our life. This means that we cannot be independent of God but in step with His plan. We are not alone in this life because God is with us. The scriptures give us a blue print by which we can live our life. When we find that balance of dependence on God which allows us to live in this world without being a part of it, then we will discover an inner peace that cannot be taken from us.

Complete Year’s Bible Reading

Note: Let me suggest that you read this in a King James Version. This version, in my opinion, is the closest to the original text. Do not use the New King James Version. Go to this link to learn more why this is so important:  http://www.christianmissionconnection.org/html/study_topics.html.

Tip: If you get behind in reading or you are just joining us, don't try to catch up by reading all that you missed, just pick up on that day's reading and go on.
